back to scary...
okay...so in looking for more of those "scared of santa" photos this year, i came upon the one below and...it just creeps me out...! yikes!

sometimes photoshop can be used for evil! man, that's just a scary face! for some reason, it reminds me of some of the made-up storybook characters in laurel and hardy's "babes in toyland" (aka "march of the wooden soldiers" 1934)--another long time christmas classic that i forgot to mention last week and haven't caught on tv in years. (maybe because people finally realized that a lot of the make-up effects were terrifying!) i guess back then they were just so excited to create life-sized cats and mice and pigs that the fact that there were human eyes glaring our from those fuzzy faces wasn't as unsettling...

there were boogie men in it too--i remember being kinda scared...
another dubious holiday classic--i remember seeing this as a small kid back in the early 70's--was this masterpiece! you can't go wrong when you put santa up against an invasion of little green men. 1964. crazy!

well, on to other things.
it's comforting to me that we--our little perhapa-family here--were able to offer well-wishes to one another and to enjoy the spirit of the season together, but now that we've covered to peace on earth/good will toward men part. let's get down to it...
whadja get?
i mean, i know we prob'ly all got clothes of some kind, and maybe that was your favorite present, but as this is a forum for all things paranormal, comic book, movie, music, books and magazines, etc. let's hear it, perhapa-gang! whadja get?
lemme know~~
smell ya later!

I'm proud to say that as a young lad I actually saw Santa vs. the Martians in a theatre on the big screen. The cheese factor in that boy was 10 out of 10.
As for Christmas, comic wise I got a Wonder Woman head sketch by Darwyn Cooke, the super deluxe Blade Runner collection, the Long Halloween Absolute edition signed and sketeched by Tim Sale and the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Black Dossier.
Carol Ann got this caricature of her Broadway "Debut" in "the 25th Annual Putnman County Spelling Bee courtesy of the very talented Tom Beland.

Hmmm, that didn't work. You can cut and paste this to see the image.

Congrats on that Cooke sketch, Brian. I'm jealous!
I usually feel guilty talking about stuff I get for Christmas but this year, what the heck. I'm as materialistic as they come.
Suzanne got me a big Yamaha keyboard I've been wanting for about ten years so I can finally learn how to play the piano. She also got me one of the most comfortable shirts I've ever worn and a Poof! foam football. (Long story but that one means a lot to me.) Got some movies, books and videogames (from some unexpected benefactors I won't name unless they want me to...THANKS!) Leaf got me a great THEY LIVE T-shirt and a print of the PENNY ARCADE strip that Mike helped Gabe figure out, along with a nice printout of Gabe's accompanying post. I almost cried in front of Leaf. Thanks, man. And Todd and Craig sent us some awesome framed pictures of Mike with his buds Todd and Craig. Suzanne and I actually did cry then, buddy. Thanks for the pics.
Hey-Zeus that's one creepy Wererabbit Santa. The stuff of nightmares.
Luckily, that Cooke Wonder-Woman sketch helps alleviate the creeps. Nice score.
On the comic-side of life I didn't have that big of a score, but what I did receive was substantial nonetheless. Mafus hooked me up with a page from NEXTWAVE, which is getting framed as soon as I get paid Friday. (I excitedly babbled to Angie about it for ten minutes when I got home and she just smiled and nodded like she usually does.) He also set a brother up with three hardcover volumes of LEAVE IT TO CHANCE. A fun read that I'd seen before but never picked up. I'm now trying to the Missus to read it. Thanks, mang.
Speaking of the Missus...as a Green Lantern geek I've been itching for a ring for many a moon. I'd bought one a couple years ago, but it was thick, bulky and the green enamel started popping out. We have a friend who makes jewelry on the side, so Angie commissioned her to make me a new one and it's bad arse. A silver old school looking beauty. (I'd post a picture, but I haven't taken one yet. Soon.)
Wasn't that SANTA/MARTIANS movie a MST3K episode?
The 'family-ness' of the blog here is one of the things i love the most about it! Everyone here rocks in my book.
Brian, you made out big dude! I'm throwing lots of envy your way haha!
I got the usual stuff, some dvds, video games, books, mini-digital camera, clothes, gift certs and cold hard cash which always comes in handy! I didn't get any comic book stuff, BUT I did get this MONSTROUS little book collecting like 5 decades worth of MAD magazines comic strips and stuff, it's really cool!
i just got busted for not listing what i got...
i got:
dvds
harry potter and the order of the phoenix
the office : seasons one and two
deadwood : season 2
1408
balls of fury
full metal jacket
comics
x-men omnibus
batman illustrated by neal adams vol 1
a far side calendar
Crisis On Multiple Earths Volume 1 (I own these stories so many times over, I couldn't bring myself to buy this volume, so I put it on my Christmas list. It's the damn completist in me)
Sgt. Rock Showcase
Supergirl Showcase
Marvel Family Archives (yeah, baby!)
WTF is that a chupacabra??
Anywho... I got
Ipod deck, which is about half for my boyfriend and half for me (it was from him, mind you).
Gift card to craft store, pajamas, shower stuff, purse, League of Extraordinary gentlemen (yes, I never read them, I know, I'm dumb), a knitting book with Harry Potter patterns.... listed it all over on my blog if people want to see more :)
oh, jadie--
i envy you those new pristine league of extraordinary gentlemen...enjoy them!
also, i gotta see some of those harry patter potterns when you get some done--cool!
walt--

That is one seriously creepy scary photo.
It's a picture of a combination Santa/Easter Bunny, and he's out for blood! ;)
Anyhooo, I got
Looney Tunes Golden Collection vol 5
"On the Home Front" Disney Treasures
new watch
Mostly I gave the cool stuff this year, got my wife a new iPod Nano, our daughter a Wii and my mother a digital picture frame.
See now I thought it was a cat. Those are some big fangs for a bunny. I mostly just got clothes. I did get Harry Potter and the order of the Phoneix and Shrek the Third - neither of which I had seen until now. Actually since I fell asleep watching Shrek the Third tonight I still haven't seen it. I only got like 3 hours of sleep last night so I really needed the nap. I'm awake now though.
Brian, I just re-read your comment and saw the part about Carol Ann on Broadway. For real?!! That's awesome.
Todd, last time I checked, those X-MEN obnibuses (omnibi?) are pretty hard to come by, so you made out.
our pal, roger ash, over at westfield comics, told me that it'd be okay if i posted his christmas list--
here goes--
Hi Todd,
Merry Christmas a bit late and Happy New Year a bit early. I was reading your blog a bit earlier today and thought I’d pass along some of the fun loot I got for Christmas; Walt Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald Vol. 3, 30 Rock Season 1 on DVD, Born Standing Up (Steve Martin’s autobiography of his stand up years), and the live Barenaked Ladies CD/DVD set. Was Santa good to you?
FYI Sales on the Perhapanauts Annual are good. So far we’ve sold 82 and we’re still taking orders. As a point of reference, we sold 55 of Perhapanauts: Second Chances #1. Thanks for the plug on your blog, by the way. We had one person call who specifically wanted to order the 2-cover set.
Best,
Roger
Just got the regular gift cards/certificates myself.
I will be using them for cool loot though.
I'm not sure, but I'm thinking Roger @ Westfield is referring to me. I called for some info about the 2 cover set and promptly ordered online.
How's that for a christmes present?
Anyway, that chupacabra santa (good call jadielady)sure looks creepy.
Brian - cool stuff. I had to delete everything after "btmulcahy/" in order to see the other stuff because the link you gave went straight to the carol ann pic of her caricature (also very cool for her).
Well, hope everyone has a Great and Safe New Year !
